Refill cartridge

When your ink cartridge is empty, you can choose between two options. The first option is to refill the empty cartridge. The second option you have, is to buy a new cartridge. The latter is only a good idea when your old cartridge can’t be refilled, since refilling is always cheaper than buying a whole new cartridge. But what do you do with your old, empty cartridge, once you have bought a new one, or with the cartridges of an old printer that you are no longer using?

First of all: you can’t just throw away the cartridges with your other trash. Ink cartridges often contain hazardous substances, meaning that they have to be treated as hazardous waste when you dispose them.

If you want to get rid of your old cartridges, you can either choose to turn them in for reclamation or reuse at a copy shop, or to dispose them at an appropriate solid waste facility. Often you can also find special containers at local supermarkets or D.I.Y. shop, where you can not only discard your empty batteries and old light bulbs, but also your empty ink cartridges. This way, you prevent hazardous substances from harming the environment.

If you don’t mind making a little more effort in recycling your old ink cartridges, you can even get some money out of it. Some company’s are more than willing to buy your empty cartridges or toners. The returns are not extremely high, but he that can not keep a penny, shall never have many. With this option, you not only help to protect the environment, you also gain some money for something you need to get rid off. A perfect win-win situation.
